Vietnam-Japan Business Forum for Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy

Vietnam is a leading growth center in Southeast Asia with a population of nearly 100 million, the energy demand is growing and is forecast to increase rapidly in the future.

To ensure energy security, the Government of Vietnam has been implementing synchronous solutions, including both developing new sustainable energy sources and while saving energy in all activities of life and economy, society.

Based upon these background, with the support from Ministry of Environmental (Japan) and Ministry of Industry and Trade (Vietnam), Japan Energy Conservation Center (ECCJ) and Japanese Business Alliance for Smart Energy Worldwide (JASE-W) and Green Development Center organised the “Vietnam-Japan Business Forum for Energy Efficiency, Conservation and Renewable Energy”.

Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director General, Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, MOIT, Vietnam made a speech at the Forum

 Speaking at the forum, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director General, Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, MOIT of Vietnam shared: “Over the past years, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has been increasing more closely, including cooperation in the field of economical and efficient use of energy and renewable energy between industries and businesses of the two countries. In Vietnam, energy demand has increased significantly over the past decade, in the period 2010-2019 total final energy consumption grew by 4.3% per year to reach 61,853 KTOE in 2019. However, for two consecutive years 2018 and 2019, the growth rate compared to the previous year is quite high, 11,86% in 2018 and 6,7% in 2019.”

Enterprises, Experts at the Forum

According to Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, in the coming time, Vietnam’s energy demand is forecasted to continue to increase sharply in response to the high growth of the economy and the increasing daily living needs of the people. In order to ensure energy security and fulfill international commitments on environmental protection, the Government of Vietnam has been implementing many solutions synchronously, including both developing new sustainable energy sources and while saving energy in all activities of life and economy, society.

At the Forum, Mr. Masaomi Koyama – Director General and SOE Leader, METI, Japan said: “The Japanese side will introduce advanced Japanese technologies such as electricity manufacturing from waste, heat pumps, cogeneration, high efficiency boilers and energy-saving building materials, and at the same time he believes they can provide a place to promote exchanges between Japanese and Vietnamese in the careers”.

The forum was conducted through 3 working sessions with major topics, in session 1, experts and researchers shared solutions to improve energy efficiency for the industry and manufacturing enterprises. The second discussion session with the topic of waste electricity technology. 3rd session with the topic of heat use, high efficiency boilers and other technologies.

Speaking at the closing of the forum, Mr. Masahide Shima – Executive Director of the Japan Energy Efficiency Center affirmed: “The Japan Energy Conservation Center ECCJ is Japan’s contact point for introduction and dissemination Japan’s energy conservation experience, various policies and Japan’s experience for the world. JASE-W Business Promotion Council will be the window to exchange Japanese smart energy construction experience. Vietnam and Japan will actively exchange and introduce different energy technologies and experiences that both sides are looking for.
