Industry accounts for more than 47% of the total national energy consumption. Actual surveys show that the potential for energy saving in the industry in Viet Nam is estimated at about 20-30%. Meanwhile, the level of energy waste in construction remains quite massive. According to the Ministry of Construction, the potential for energy saving is expected at 30-35%, with the annual growth rate of the total floor area put into use of over 40%.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, under the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labeling Programme, since July 1, 2013, over 90% of household appliances have energy efficiency labels. The program has eliminated the consumption of incandescent light bulbs and improved the energy efficiency for 06 types of energy-intensive products (Transformers, air conditioners, rice cookers, electric fans, tube fluorescent lamps, CFL).
Speaking at the launching event, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu – Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) emphasized: With the aims to recognize and honor enterprises in industrial production, and typical construction projects in the implementation of solutions for a more efficient energy consumption, as well as the leading firms in manufacturing and trading energy-saving products with higher efficiency, gradually shifting the market and eliminating low-efficiency products, the Steering Board of the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Programme cooperates with and the Viet Nam Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Association (VECEA) to organise “Energy Efficiency Award in Industry and Construction Award 2021 and the TOP RUNNER 2021”
